Hernan Cortes - Reasons for Success :: American America History

Hernan Cortes - Reasons for Success For what reason was Cortes with 508 fighters ready to vanquish the Aztec Empire with a great many individuals? Cortes had the option to vanquish the Aztecs for a few totally different reasons. In blend these reasons permitted him to have the high ground in the success of Mexico. Apparently these reasons can be arranged into six distinct classes. The different reasons for Cortes' prosperity will be evaluated in a peak design. In the first place the Aztecs had an unforgiving tribute framework that was not well known among the individuals of Mexico. This brutal tribute framework permitted Cortes to go about as a deliverer. Moreover, with the Spanish got a few infections into Mexico witch they were invulnerable to yet the Aztecs were most certainly not. The spread of ailments, for example, little pox diminished the Aztec populace and facilitated Cortes' prosperity accidentally Also Marina was an inborn young lady given as a blessing to Cortes, she demonstrated priceless in deciphering nearby vernaculars in mix with Geronimo de Aguilar. Likewise a significant part of his prosperity was because of Montezuma's conviction that Cortes was Quetzakoatl. A transcendent explanation behind the Spanish achievement was because of their weaponry particularly their defensive layer and capability. Maybe the most significant explanation of everything was that of Cortes' Indian partners, for example, the Tlaxcalans who made up most of his joined armed force. Every one of these reasons cooperated to permit Cortes, initially with 508 men to vanquish the Aztec Empire of a huge number of individuals. In the first place, the Aztec's barbarous tribute framework permitted Cortes to go about as a hero. The procedure of human penance was incredibly normal and was dreaded by most of the average folks. The Aztecs as a sustenance for the Sun and every single other god required human penance. The Aztecs yielded somewhere in the range of 10,000 and 50,000 casualties for each year. As most of the individuals who were relinquished were war prisoners who contradicted the Aztecs, they clearly incredibly dreaded the ruthless tribute framework. Anyway not just war prisoners were penances, regular grown-ups and youngsters were additionally relinquished now and again. Cortes himself was appalled at the idea of human penance, this permitted him to increase Indian partners just as addition regard among Mexican clans that dreaded and contradicted the Aztecs. Most of the populace dreaded the procedure in this way making Cortes, whom disdained the procedure, an engaging other option. Many followed Cort es as they had similar perspectives on the 'human penance' subject.

How to Spot Money-Laundering and Reshipping Scams

How to Spot Money-Laundering and Reshipping Scams Are money-laundering and reshipping scams only tied to big corporations? How come most scams come to you by people abroad who reach you through e-mail or social media? With so many possibilities and offers we can find on the internet, how to know which one is reliable and which one isnt?Nowadays, people are aware of e-mail scamming and think twice before responding to an e-mail where a Nigerian prince who is a relative of theirs passed away and left them money.Still, scams are evolving and can be found not only through social media, but through employment boards as well.In this article, we will tackle this taboo subject and cover everything you need to know in order to not get caught up in money-laundering and reshipping scams.Weve covered everything from explaining how these scams work, to how to spot and avoid them.Hope you enjoy reading!WHAT IS A SCAM?Internet jobs are the most convenient ways for criminals to move their stolen goods or money. Individuals willing to work and make mo ney unwillingly partake in illegal activities. Most job seekers are already familiar with that they can become accomplices or victims to a scam if they are not careful when looking for work online.Scams can often come as an e-mail, which is a lot of times grammatically incorrect. Although, scam e-mails can teach us a lot about sales. These e-mails state that the employer has seen your resume somewhere and that they are offering you a position in their company. Spoofing is also a well-known way of e-mail scamming.A WORD ABOUT SPOOFINGSpoofing is forging an e-mail header so that the e-mail appears as if its coming from someone or somewhere official. The point is not to show the real source of the e-mail, because of its, probable ambiguity.People open e-mails more when they think they came from an official source. The goal of spoofing is just that to get people to open the e-mail and to respond to it.Most spoofing e-mails are easily detected and can just be deleted. Some, however, can be serious security risks. An e-mail can supposedly be from a website you use, and it can ask you for sensitive information. It may ask you for your credit card number, password and other information you dont share.Another serious security risk is when the e-mail contains links to malware and viruses which are installed on your computer when clicked on.Spoofing is a way of executing phishing attacks and is often used not only to get sensitive information out of you and install viruses on your device but also for identity thefts and image tarnishing.WHAT IS A MONEY-LAUNDERING SCAM?Requiring someone to do a transaction in someone elses name and with illegally obtained money and promising them something in return, while actually stealing that money is an act called money laundering.Promises can, other than money, be about new job offers, or about some prizes you have won, and even about free trips you are awarded. This act is called money laundering because youve basically washed illegally acquired money into now clean, legal money. This concept is very popular in the criminal world and in corruptive individuals or institutions. With the evolution of the internet, unfortunately, this type of scam evolved as well. More often than not, these types of scams rely on the internet.Scammers rely on gullible people to answer a false job offer of using their personal bank accounts to transfer stolen money to the scammer.Usually, the individual who agrees to carry out the job gets to keep a part of the total sum as compensation for their work. However, when the right authorities find out about the act, they take away all the money. In addition, extra charges for participating in criminal activity will happen. This seems like an easy way to make money, however, even if we take away the fact that it is not legal, long-term its not sustainable. You dont want to be looking around always wondering if someone will find out, do you?Keep in mind that if you didnt ask questions about the j ob being legit or not, you could end up with financial penalties or even going to jail.Lets keep in mind that banks also have access to your account and can notice if you suddenly have an abnormal amount of cash flowing through your bank account.Money-launderers often create job openings for people from a specific nation. They then ask the candidates to transfer money or process payments in their name, stating that they cant do so themselves because they are not from that nation.Communication then continues and its quality can vary. Weve witnessed fraud e-mail which is very proficiently written, but more often than not they have noticeable grammar mistakes.Scammers dont take long to respond and dont organize a selection process. If you are immediately accepted for a job, without a selection process and you are told that you are the perfect candidate. If you find yourself in a situation like this, know that this is a red flag. WHAT IS A RESHIPPING SCAM?Similar to money-laundering, res hipping scams are based on manipulating individuals to partake in a crime or commit a new one entirely. The range of crimes that can be committed is very vast: from repackaging stolen merchandise, electronics, drugs, guns, stolen money and worse things we wont even mention. This type of scam is also well-known as postal forwarding. This is how they work:An individual accepts a package that the scammer has sent.He repackages it and reships it back to them.He pays the shipping charges. The scammer pays with fake money, usually its a fake paycheck but nowadays Bitcoin is also popular. After the paycheck bounces, the people whove executed the deed can be charged for shipping or even for the price of goods which were bought online with someone elses money. The victim handled the stolen goods and thus committed an illegal act.All the victim did is follow the instructions, but as we can see, blindly following instructions will just lead to being exploited by someone.Since the victims are domest ic and the easily traceable parts of the scam. This type of work-at-home deals happen when for example, a cybercriminal acquires someones credit card information. With that, he or she will buy different goods which will be repackaged and reshipped back to them.Usually, the goods are then sold on the black market. Money acquired like this can further be laundered. MONEY LAUNDERING TECHNIQUESMoney-laundering first introduces the money into the financial system. After that, the money is moved around to create distance between the criminals and itself. In the end, the money is brought back to the criminals as legitimate money.Because the amount of money laundered is usually outstanding, one way to do it is to break it into smaller transactions and spread to different accounts. Across borders, money can be laundered through wire transfers or currency exchange. It is also popular to get the victims to invest in gold or other goods which can be transported around easier than money. Investing i n real estate or creating companies is a neat way of hiding from the government your extra income.Being under the radar is necessary to pull out a scam like this. With new anonymous ways of doing online payments or using virtual currencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, it is almost impossible to trace illegal money. Using proxy servers to change the IP address leaves no trace and can be a way to a perfect crime.Online auctions, gambling websites and even gaming websites can be used to launder money. For example, if a gaming website has its own currency and the stolen money can be converted into it, when converted back it will come up as clean money.Laws on money-laundering are slow to catch up since they rely mostly on traditional banks and institutions. Cybercriminals want to remain undetected and change their approach often be it online gaming websites, block chain or auctions and sales.RESHIPPING TECHNIQUESThe criminal can be located anywhere in the world and can find a victim anywher e online. The criminal committed identity theft and cant use that identity to make purchases, else he or she is at risk of being discovered by authorities. So, the criminal relies on the victim to receive the goods at their address and reship them to them. Almost never do the criminal and the victim actually meet in person. The scam is done through the internet by offering work-at-home, charity scams, flirting and so on. The victim receives instructions on how, when and where to receive the package and where the criminal wants them to be sent afterward.HOW DO MERCHANTS PREVENT THIS?Reshipping scams are a big threat to companies who ship worldwide. FedEx, UPS, DHL and many others need to constantly be on the look-out of being dragged into illegal activities with reshipping. When we sign a package upon receiving it, we helped prevent reshipping scams. This is a measure created by these companies to reduce the probability of such scams.Other precautions have also been taken. Merchants can refuse to ship to a customer that enters different billing and shipping addresses. To check what happened, they call the customer or try to draw a connection between two people on their own. When the merchant establishes how the two people know each other, then it is safe to assume that the shipment is not a scam. How can merchants establish a connection between the buyer and the recipient? Well, for example, they can use social media. Facebook and Twitter come in handy in these scenarios. If he doesnt find a public connection there it means that he needs to dig deeper. The more advanced merchants can track IP addresses and compare shopping behaviors, but not all merchants are on this level yet.HOW TO SPOT THESE SCAMS?The question is how to notice a fake from a real job offer in a place called the internet. Many offers are out there and if you want to avoid getting caught in illegal activities you need to be very careful. There are some red signs you should be on the lookout:Solicitation of money If your potential new employer is asking you to pay something in advance, the offer is not trustworthy. A lot of times you are required to send something to him a CV, a recommendation letter, a task that he assigned to you but you will never be asked to pay something upfront. If you do get asked, dont do it and end all communication with him/them.E-mail address is not from company domain Employers usually contact through official company e-mail address which has their own domain. If the employers address is Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo, that may be a red flag. All serious companies and institutions nowadays have their own e-mail domain so you know that their representatives are official. The job seems too easy The majority of work offers which can be done from home are not real. If the job description is a one and done act and it seems to simple to be worth that much money, it is probably a scam. The bar is set too low If your qualifications arent specified and you are not in terviewed or asked about your experience, strengths, weaknesses, wants and wishes, the other side is probably looking for just any accomplice they can find. Often times they will talk to you like you are their perfect candidate. You can ask them questions to check legitimacy. For example, what do they like about you so much or how do they see your contribution to the company?Lack of company information After every offer be sure to research the company online. Visit their company website, look for reviews and experiences. Does the offer match with what you can find about the company online? Is the e-mail they contacted you with the same as the one on the website? If the information is lacking then its best to quit pursuing that company further.Suspicious location Are you required to show up at an unknown location? If your potential employer asks you to come to a job presentation at a location you find uncomfortable, you should probably ignore the invitation. He or she may even ask you to pick up something somewhere, and this is definitely a red flag, as red as it can get.Guaranteed income without investing Something that generates income and doesnt require investing time, money, or both in it, and is presented to you by a message on social media or through e-mail, should definitely be ignored.HOW TO PREVENT FROM GETTING INVOLVED?There are some precautions to take to be safe from getting involved in scams in the first place. Sometimes, especially if you are in a hard situation, it can be very hard to decline a job offer. We all need a job, but evaluating the offer before accepting it can prevent you from being caught up in an illegal scam. This seriously exposes you to financial and personal risk.It is recommended that you always research the company which gives you the offer what employees say about it (its best if you can find someone who has worked or currently works there, testimonials are the best), where is it located, how many search results it gets, w ho they work with and how their website and social media look like.In real life, its usually very easy to spot a scam if you the research. Hard and honest work is the only thing that guarantees financial stability long-term.If you encounter an offer where you can make easy money, think twice why no one else is doing it. Making a lot of money in a short period of time is why criminals begin their illegal journey, and you dont want to end up taking that road.Remember to keep your anti-virus software up to date and turned on always. This will help detect unwanted and harmful content in messages, e-mails, websites and so on.Also, never give out personal information to an unofficial source. The rule of thumb is not to download any content someone you dont know sends you it is probably malware. You should be very picky about your online payments. Dont enter sensitive information at websites which are not secure. It is common for scammers to ask for your credit card information.Be on the l ookout for messages on websites like You are the 1,000,000th visitor! Claim your prize!. When you click on such messages, they usually ask you first for your credit card information before they give you your prize. These links might also carry viruses.WHAT TO DO IF I GET INVOLVED?If you believe that you have been involved in a scam that includes money-laundering or reshipping, or that your personal information was compromised, you should immediately close credit card and bank accounts that are in danger.Report the case to the authorities and gather as much evidence as you can the conversations, their website, their contact and so on.If you yourself did something illegal in the process and you know it, seek legal counseling.Stop all contact with the scammer. Dont reply to any message or e-mail anymore and dont answer the phone. Also, its easy to block them. Dont reply even though they are promising you your money back. Some scammers pretend to be enforcement agencies and promise that they can get you your lost money back.Dont pay anything else when you get scammed, the chances of recovering the money are not good.Your bank has a policy ready on how to deal with frauds. The bank will guide you through the process of closing your account and will be there to assist you fully through this experience. If you have transferred money through another bank or service, it would be best to contact them as well and let them know what happened. After youve done all of these steps, change your passwords for accounts that have been compromised. It is best that you use a different password for all of them from now on. If any of your devices was hacked, for example a phone, a PC or a laptop, clean it.You can bring it to a technician and ask them to format it for you if you are not familiar with how to go about it.At the end of the day, learn out of this and make the most of it. Pay attention in the future if you come across a scam again so you dont fall for it twice, or more. Lear n how scammers work and how to avoid them. You will notice the resemblance in how scammers work.Lastly, talk with someone about this. Your family, partner or friends are there to support you. Even though you might feel shame in admitting that you fell victim to a scam, sharing always helps ease the burden. Not only will you feel better, but they will also learn from that story and wont fall for a scam themselves. This is why sharing this with someone is a definite win-win.FINAL THOUGHTSFalling victim to a scam of any kind, be it money-laundering, reshipping or any other kind is not a fun experience. You will feel manipulated, ashamed and gullible.Truth be told, the internet is full of people waiting to exploit you, so you need to be aware that scam offers are always there.Think twice before accepting to make easy money, you might just end up helping someone perform a criminal activity and face the consequences yourself. The web is a great place to find work online and the good news is that if your offer is from an untrustworthy source that you will probably figure it out by doing a little research about the employer or company.Hopefully, with this article, you feel more aware of what happens online. These scams can happen to you but by following this article we are sure that you will be safe from money-launderers and reshipping scammers. Its always better to be careful than to be sorry, so keep your eyes open!

Deforestation Is Infrastructure Expansion ( Geist Lambin...

There are many causes/factors to deforestation, which are largely associated with direct human influence. The first proximate cause to deforestation is infrastructure expansion (Geist Lambin, 2002, p. 144). This refers to transportation (roads), private and public markets, rural and urban settlements, and private and public services (water lines, oil exploitation, etc†¦) (Geist Lambin, 2002, p. 144). The next cause is agricultural expansion, which includes, large or small-scale cultivations, shifting cultivations (slash and burn), and, of course, cattle ranching. Wood extractions for industrial and domestic purposes are other proximate causes to this issue. These issues may be exacerbated by mismanagement of central governments, heavy political and economic pressures, widespread corruption, cronyism (appointing familiars to positions of authority), and illegal logging operations (Speth Haas, 2006, p. 30). Corruption and illegal extracting activities are especially problematic because they allow for further abuse and destruction to this environment. International development agencies and corporations, such as the World Bank, must also be looked as actors to this problem. They have contributed millions of dollars â€Å"into dams, highways, power development, and transmigration schemes† (Speth Haas, 2006, 31). These organizations encourage foreign investments to be taken place so as to expand extraction operations (Speth Haas, 2006, 31). Multicultural Education Free Essays

This article is a response to a journal entry of a young person view on Multicultural Education in America. This article will have some similarly views and also different view on the education of your young people that is shared with the person who wrote the journal entry. Multicultural Education Only in America can someone have a strong opinion about how we should all be like in there eyes, even when we talk the same, dress the same and live in American but that is as far as it goes. We will write a custom essay sample on Multicultural Education or any similar topic only for you Order Now Multicultural Education is unique in many ways and this type of education help build bridges that help young people excel in school and beyond. I agree that we do live in the same country, speak the language, eat the food, and do the entire thing Americans do. I also agree with is statement on the responsibility to teach to the best of there abilities to help students, as educators that it is our job to help student achieve success in school so they can be productive citizens. My assumption of this article is that the students has only seen one part of America and does not see that there are many different cultural and race that make education unique and that this make our students special. I disagree with many of the statement in the journal entry is that he is not concern with cultural or diversity. Every school around the country is divisive and each student is unique in their own special way, each student has different learning style and come from different ethic background. Cultural and Diversity One of the most important concept in teaching that the child come first not matter what cultural or diverse background they come from. As educators we ust focus our attention to the needs of the student because it they are not going to our school we as educators will not have the luxury of paying our bills, feeding our families and do the things we want to do. The focus of education need to reflect the needs of every student and cultural is another part of which this student is and by learning more about who they are we as educators will learn new ways to become effective teachers by listening to their needs. Every child is different and unique, they come many different cu ltural and different background and they each need special attention to how they learn. The diversity in education is also important because students learn better from teachers with similar language background and can relate to them in a special way. For example I can use my native language to explain a concept to my struggling students and make a connection using tools or strategies to help them understand the context. There are many example of how diversity the classroom breeds successes among students, and studies have shown that students learn well in small groups when they share their culture with one another. The important of preserving the cultural in education is very prevalent on the Navajo Nation, we have many different ways we are sharing our cultural with our native students through books, CDs, and many other ways that we share and teach them about the past and present ways of life. It is important to share your cultural with other people just so that they can learn from your people and create an understanding among people and how they live. This help reduces many misconception about different cultural and this help build a bridge of understanding between two people. Another good example of sharing our cultural at the beginning of each school year all new Anglo or African American teacher comes to our school district they experience a one week crash course on what life is like on the Navajo Reservation by having the spend several days and nights with a family in the remote desert of Arizona. They experience life with out electricity, running water and technology as well as share the experience of herding sheep or cattle, butching a sheep or farming crops. This experience for the young teacher is to show them what life is like for our young Navajo students. In Tucson, Arizona there is an elementary school does something similar with their teachers by allowing the new teachers to meet the families of their students at there home and spend sometime getting to know each other. This is helpful because the teacher become part of the family and the students relate better to the teacher, and the student is successful in with there education. There are many other example of how diversity and cultural is used in education to help student become successful in school. Cultural and diversity are interchangeable aspect of education and both complement one another, and can’t have one without the other one. Cultural aspect of education shape our mind and thinking beyond what is being taught at school and diversity is making the connection to who you are as a person drawing from experience and background. The importance of both cultural and diversity is to keep the past alive through stories and books, but to keep traditional alive for people come from different backgrounds and help build a bridge of understanding between two different people and this help the teachers to understand their students. In education the main focus is the students not matter what cultural or diverse background they come from we as educators should do our best to educate them, because they will be our future leaders of this great country called America. PERSONAL COMMUNICATION Personal Communication is defined as what information wanted transferred between two different entities. Communication can be easily achieved between two people just through speaking, hand gestures , over the phone, even using a computer to emulate whatever is needed. Communication is commonly defined as the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs. One of the most common forms of personal communication is oral. For example when you go to a fast food restaurant and order your favorite meal, you are communicating orally. Non-Verbal communication is when people do not use their voice to indicate what they want. An example of nonverbal communication would be when you are at a stoplight and the traffic is being directed by a police officer and the officer uses his hand signals to wave you by them. That way I would not have any type of anxiety or nervousness with such groups. In the current profession I work selling tools at Harbor Freight Tools. Personal communication is a must at my job to keep day to day job running smoothly. To keep orders correct or to make sure people don’t have to carry out the wrong tool and load it for a customer , therefore saving time with the correct parts and also saving money for the company by not paying someone to do the same job twice with the right and wrong part. There are three goals that I will set to improve my personal and professional communication levels. The first goal I set is to learn how to write better for papers . Doing so would take down my stress level when paper assignments are due. Better ability to write would also probably help out with my grades. The second goal I set is better personal communication between myself and loved ones and relationships now and in the future. Since returning from the Marine Corps, I have been told that I am very cold or stonewalled and show no emotion. I would like to be able to show my loved one or friends that I am not emotionless and able to care about things or people. The third goal I have set for myself with my communication skills is to learn a few other languages in the future to expand my knowledge and my ability to communicate with people, maybe even help if I ever travel to foreign lands to get my ideas across and am not completely lost. One of the future communication challenges I believe I will have will be in my future line of work (police officer) keeping calm with subjects when they have done terrible things, or with those who have no communication skills other than the way they were raised, with no morals or things, but I will over come this with my persistence and faith. Personal communication is important in this day and time. Getting your idea across to who or what you want it to get to is of major importance more than ever. With countries have hair triggers and nuclear weapons aimed towards each other, an unclear message or a message that is completely misunderstood could end up with bad consequences that weren’t meant, had the message been understood the way it was intended. Another example of non-verbal communication between two entities which had monumental cost for both sides with the message completely clear would be when the country of Japan sent forth their fleet and sneak attacked and bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The message was clear and was understood fully. Even with good clear communication people can have catastrophes happen. Show, Dont Ask

Show, Dont Ask Dont ask an editor what you can write for him. Writers arent just about putting words together. They are about bringing fresh material to the table. Writers are a dime a dozen. New ideas are a dime a dozen. Writers who can write and produce fresh ideas hit the sweet spot. Dont ask questions like: 1) What can I write for you? 2) Is this the sort of thing you publish? 3) What are your guidelines? 4) Are you accepting submissions? Were talking ANY sort of writing whether you pitch magazines, apply for copywriting gigs, write nonfiction, or create novels. Your job as a writer is to make an editors work easy, not add to their pile. Come to them with solutions, not more work, and yes, answering inquisitive emails is work when you multiply it times a hundred each and every day. At the risk of being repetitious, the golden rule for any writer attempting to earn money is this: Dont make work for an editor (or agent or publisher). Approach the editor/agent/publisher with a proposal that makes them eager. . . makes them feel like you are more than worth their time. Make a proposal strong. State what you can do for the other party and demonstrate how you can do it. Of course, a pitch for a freelance story is different from one for a novel, and nonfiction requires the book to be outlined with sample chapters while fiction must be polished to the hilt. But the recipient must open this package and marvel at how print-close it is. But the goal of any proposal/pitch/query is to show the person on the other end that: 1) You know how to write, 2) You have a fresh idea, 3) Your work fits THEIR goals of reaching readers, and 4) You are capable of following through. You might be a fantastic writer, but if you cannot pitch it properly and show how much value you can add, nobody will ever learn how great you are. And to ask someone to help you figure it out, not appreciating how full their plate already is, is like putting in your query, Youre not interested in buying my work, are you? Trust me. The answer will always be no.

For example, if the College Board didn’t have school codes and you wrote â€Å"MSU† as one of the schools you’d like your scores to be sent to, the College Board wouldn’t know if you wanted your scores sent to Michigan State University, Missouri State University, or Montana State University.SAT college codes give each school its own unique four-digit number, so the College Board knows exactly where you want your scores sent. The SAT codes for colleges and schools can also be used to send your SAT scores to certain scholarship programs. On the College Board’s complete list of school codes, there is a special section that lists the codes for about 20 different scholarships, including the National Merit Scholarship Program, Air Force ROTC Scholarships, and William C Doherty Scholarships. Cooperation between Canada and China Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Cooperation between Canada and China - Essay Example After the completion of the railway, the majority of Chinese left Canada after the passing of The Chinese Immigration Act of 1885. The act was followed by other acts that were focused on increasing the fees that were levied on the Chinese residents found in Canada. The period between 1923 -1947 was referred to as exclusion era. This was the time during which China was restricted from visiting or residing in Canada (Canadian Census of population 46). However, after 1947, the two countries were engaged in business activities and economic development that resulted in a remarkable economic growth of the two countries. This paper seeks to discuss how globalization influences the patterns of development in Canadian and Chinese history. Since the 1940s, Canada and China have been involved in a number of partnerships that have been growing tremendously resulting in strong economic ties between the two countries. For example, leaders from the two countries have been meeting regularly to discu ss the rich oil fields in the two countries since oil has made both countries to have a stronger relationship. When the energy ministry is not conducting its mandate well, both countries have to raise the issue and make sure that the issue is finally settled. China and Canada have been signing agreements concerning energy distributions and this provides for the exchange of experience in economic matters. One of the agreements that they signed was that Canada had to supply carbon captures and storage projects since China didn’t have the technological know-how about carbon. This agreement gave china confidence and groundwork for further industrial cooperation between the two countries. Influence of globalization on the developments in Canadian and Chinese history China and Canada are two developed countries that have a significant impact on the global economy. The two countries have been involved in trading activities since 1945. Based on the tremendous economic growth of China in the last 50 years, the majority of countries have taken the initiative to form economic ties with China and Canada. Through recognizing its growth potential, the Canadian government has taken the initiative to widen its relationship with China. Precisely, the aim of the Canadian government is to ensure that China’s growth in economy benefits Canada. This is done by making China the most preferred destination for residents of Canada. Due to high influence and emergence of China as a major player in economic sector for the last two decades it has made more countries worldwide to seek the attention from China, and strong economic ties have been established so that they can trade with China and that why Canada was no exception but rather to carry on with trade (China Index of Economic Freedom 33).

How does the Media Impact Youth's Body Image and Self Esteem Research Paper

How does the Media Impact Youth's Body Image and Self Esteem - Research Paper Example Media includes the use of billboards, fashion designers, films, television, magazines, movies, newspapers, videos, radio, and websites. Due to excessive mass media exposure, there is a risk wherein the youth may or may not feel good about their body image (van Vonderen & Kinnally, 2012). In relation to the adverse psychological effects of mass media with regards to how a person feels about himself, this study aims to prove that mass media can either create a positive or negative impact over the youth’s body image and self esteem. Applicable to both male and female, this study will gather some peer-reviewed evidences to explore how mass media exposure could affect a child perception about what an ideal body is all about. Thesis Statement Either positive or negative, the media has a significant impact on youth’s body image and self-esteem. Literature Review A child is able to develop an ideal feminine beauty and a universally accepted masculinity through mass media exposu re (van Vonderen & Kinnally, 2012; Dittmar, 2009; Barlett, Vowels, & Saucier, 2008). Since the ideal masculine and feminine figure has been continuously portrayed in the media, the young adults are either consciously or unconsciously exerting too much effort to make their body image fit in either the ideal masculine or feminine figure (Nikkelen, Anschutz, & Ha et al., 2012; Dittmar, 2009; Barlett, Vowels, & Saucier, 2008). In relation to a strong identity, there is a link between having high levels of self esteem and a positive body image. Based on what the media is portraying, the ideal female body should be sexy, underweight, ultra-thin and lean whereas the ideal male body should be show a lot of muscles (Nikkelen et al., 2012; van Vonderen & Kinnally, 2012; Dittmar, 2009; Hobza & Rochlen, 2009; Barlett, Vowels, & Saucier, 2008). Aside from having lots of muscles, Hobza and Rochlen (2009) mentioned that a typical body image for men is often characterized by a having a lean and fit body image. As a result of stereotyping the ideal body image of men and women, people are unconsciously creating a new set of cultural standards with regards to the ideal body image. It means that more adolescent girls are developing the wrong belief that being extremely thin is the only way for them to become famous and socially accepted by other people (van Vonderen & Kinnally, 2012; Robles, 2009). Therefore, the number of unsatisfied and depressed youth increases over time. It is wrong to believe that the media can only affect the young adolescent girls when it comes to body image and self esteem. In the process of trying to make them fit in the universally accepted body image, a lot of men and women are becoming totally dissatisfied with their own body image (van Vonderen & Kinnally, 2012; Barlett, Vowels, & Saucier, 2008). The only differences between men and women is that men’s visual attention when watching another man’s body image on mass media is totally diff erent from how women’s visual attention is being caught by the media images (Nikkelen et al., 2012). This explains why more adolescent girls are affected by the media when it comes to appreciating their own body image. Even though it is more common for the adolescent girls to feel depressed, unhappy and unsatisfied with their body image as compared to the adolescent boys, the fact that there are some adolescent boys who are consciously becoming

Diaphragm: A Closer Look

Medieval ContraceptionIn the early medieval times, women who don’t want to bear children used lemon halves to stop sperm form going to the insides of the uterus. The highly acidic lemon juice serves as a spermicide, destroying the sperm upon contact. This sparked the idea of creating the modern day diaphragm, a contraceptive used by women. The DiaphragmThe modern diaphragm is invented by a physician from Germany, Dr. Wilhelm Mensnga in 1880. It is a rubber contraceptive shaped like a dome, which is fit inside the vagina. It employs a barrier method of contraception, wherein it blocks the entry of the sperm into the uterus. It is filled with spermicide before it is put in place inside the vagina. It is made of soft and flexible material for easier insertion. In order to ensure comfort and ease, the woman should be fitted for a diaphragm by a specialist (â€Å"Diaphragm (Contraceptive)†).The diaphragm fits inside the vagina and blocks the opening to the uterus. It prevents the sperm from accessing entrance to the uterus.   If ever there are some sperm that swims over the edge of the diaphragm, the spermicidal cream or jelly kills that sperm right away. This device is not an efficient birth control method if you do not use spermicidal cream or jelly. Every time a woman plans to have intercourse, she needs to use a diaphragm in order to avoid getting pregnant. The diaphragm should be put in place inside the vagina moments before sexual intercourse and should stay there for 6 to 8 hours with respect to the time of the man’s last ejaculation. This is to ensure that the spermicide would do its work. It is then gently removed, washed in soapy, warm water and returned to its case so it can be ready for another use. The lifespan of a diaphragm device is from six months to two years, depending on the usage (â€Å"Diaphragm Contraceptive Device†).Diaphragm vs. Other ContraceptivesDiaphragms are usually mistaken with Cervical Caps. The cervical c ap was invented in 1860 but is not approved by Food and Drug Administration in the US, while Diaphragms surfaced in 1880. Cervical caps are usually smaller, shaped like a thimble and is directly positioned over the cervix. Women with deep vaginas would find it rather hard to put cervical caps properly, because their position of their cervix is too far back and is hard to reach. When this is the case, using a diaphragm is preferable to ensure comfort to the women.Diaphragms have negative and positive sides when you compare it with condoms. Using a diaphragm means you have to be sure of sexual intercourse because you need to put it in advance. After that, sexual intercourse could then be made anytime within the next few hours, without bothering to stop in order to apply and replace condom. It assures of a more intimate interaction because there are no abnormal sensations that you could get when you opt for condom. It provides all the natural physical sensation of having sex for men an d women alike (Allen).Advantages and Disadvantages in using DiaphragmThe diaphragm device is relatively cheap. This is because diaphragm can be used for moths without needing to replace or buy a new one. All you need to provide is the spermicidal cream of jelly. It is an effective birth control method when used correctly. There are a few or no side effects from using a diaphragm. It is unusual to experience a problem with using diaphragm. There are some people who are allergic to spermicidal creams and jellies. It can cause skin irritation and itching. When this happens, try to switch brands of spermicidal cream or jelly. If it still persists, then it is time to consult your doctor.Failure Rate for DiaphragmWhen used with a spermicide, the effectivity of the Diaphragm could be from 84% to 95%. Failure is sometimes caused by carelessness, either by improper fitting or insertion of the device. Some also got pregnant because they didn’t use spermicide jelly or cream (Silverberg). The Goal of the DiaphragmJust like other contraceptives and birth control methods, the diaphragm aims to reduce the likelihood of being pregnant or having a baby. Along with the goal of contraception, the diaphragm also promises an enjoyable sexual intercourse where safety and comfort is considered.

Secularization in the United States The Battle of...

The United States is commonly thought to be on an inevitable march towards secularization. Scientific thought and the failure of the enlightenment to reconcile the concept of god within a scientific framework are commonly thought to have created the antithesis of religious practice in the rise of the scientific method. However, the rise of doubt and the perception that secularization is increasing over time has in actuality caused an increase in religious practice in the United States through episodic revivals. Moreover, practice of unbelief has developed into a movement based in the positive assertion in the supplantation of God by the foundations of science, or even in the outright disbelief in God. The perception of increasing†¦show more content†¦Episodic revivalism within the United States reflected the moral impetus of American society, and not necessarily the degree to which people were practicing any particular religion. Episodic revivalism certainly was concerned wi th conversion and religious practice, however, the moral portion of participating in a revival came when the need arose to be â€Å"re-revivaled.†4 People would â€Å"drop out† of religious practice, likely because revivalism was forged on making a direct emotional connection with the patron which simply could not be maintained long term.5 Moreover, large urban single immigrant populations often picked up religious practice as a tool of socialization, assimilation, reestablishment of ties and replacement of family.6 The reason revivals were episodic in the United States was not because it was a response to a tangible drop in religious participation but because they had an incredible rate of attrition due to the fact people would fall away and reestablish religious connections as the desire for whateverShow MoreRelatedHistory of Social Work18530 Words   |  75 PagesTradition ............................................................................................. ......................................................17 The Welfare State – ................................................................................................................................................17 The Welfare State Why did it all start? .................................................................................................................17 Three Social Security StrategiesRead MoreOne Significant Change That Has Occurred in the World Between 1900 and 2005.
